Every year in December my friends and I hold a holiday cookie party at my house. What started a few years ago as an impulse Saturday afternoon of making some cookies and having some wine, has grown into one of the most wonderful times of the year!

The rules are simple for CookieFest. I provide my house and all the ingredients for two cookies, usually a sugar cookie or gingerbread are included in this mix. Everyone else is required to bring a few bottles of wine. Needless to say, CookieFest is really an excuse to drink wine ALL DAY and decorate innocent sugar cookies super-inappropriately. And we danced, and we cried and we laughed and had a really, really, really good time.

This year there was a challenge introduced by The Two-Headed Nerd into CookieFest.  Joe’s wife Michelle and I were each tasked with blindly decorating a cookie based on a comic book character our husbands assigned us. We were to just guess by the name what that person looked like. Then after we decorated it, we were to then look up said character and decorate another cookie with the knowledge of what they actually look like. Challenge accepted!

First the good: we completed the challenge. Now the bad: we had pounded so much grape by the time we were issued the challenge, let’s just say I’m sure 5 year olds could have done a better job than we did.

I was assigned Disco Nightwing (editor’s note* The challenge was 1980’s Nightwing as drawn by George Perez, (wife’s note* I like that you just think I would know this) while Michelle was assigned Dazzler (who for some reason I kept referring to as Vagazzler or Vagina).

I had heard of Nightwing before so I knew it was a dude, and that he had brownish hair. Then throw in “Disco” and I immediately thought wings, jazz hands, glitter, Studio 54, leisure suits, mask…aka a gay man in the late 70’s going to da club.

Michelle’s character also invoked glitter immediately into her mind, based on name alone.

Well, we both apparently were not close in our decorating. Actually, I was way off, not sure about Michelle since I still don’t know who or what her character is named.  I can’t remember what his or her name is, and I refuse to google ‘Vagina’ or “Vagazzler’ for reasons of being banned from the internet at work.

So here is a photo of our versions of Disco Nightwing and Dazzler:

My Disco Nightwing as you can see has a lot of glitter and wings. He also has nice silver afro, it’s a wig obviously, and I was inspired by Ziggy Stardust for this look. That is what the eye mask is for too, part costume/part disguise. Also I went with a blue and yellow color palate because that just screamed Disco and Nightwing to me (yeah, I have no idea what that means either, just go with it).

Michelle’s character, well it looks like she made a woman or a very attractive man in a dress. I think that is a blue and red dress over some white pants (tights?). I do like that her character is sporting some silver glitter flats; I own a pair of those in real life (twinsies). She added some props, what looks to be a lightning bolt and a shield (maybe?).  Her interpretation of this character also has Thor hair. Thor has really beautiful hair. I am kind of jealous…

Anyway, now onto what we did once we found out what our characters look like. Side note; there was an 80% chance this didn’t happen, and only by searching my photos this morning did I see that we actually did complete this task. End, side note.

Michelle’s character apparently has a rat tail!? What in hell is that long yellow one sided piece of hair? I still have no idea if her character has a penis or not (thanks to google, it does not, it has massive breasts). It seems they wear a one piece white spandex with silver on it. Pretty much all that jazz that Michelle included is not really in the character. I personally like her colorful version much more.

I at least got the colors of my character correct. Yellow and blue! But that is about it, no wings, no silver afro, NO FUN!

If you want to hear us talk about this in our wine wasted state, listen to the latest episode of The Two-Headed Nerd Comicast.

Quick note: I will be out of town visiting my family doing shit families do this time of year, so next week will be my last blog of 2012. Happy holidays y’all!
